Hit-run cyclist leaves man unconscious in Coburg

A CYCLIST allegedly hit a man and left him lying unconscious on a path in Melbourne’s north.
The 59-year-old man was waiting at a tram stop and looking at his phone on St Georges Rd in Northcote when he stepped back onto a bike path on Tuesday.
A cyclist this morning come forward and is speaking with police after media reports emerged about the incident.
The male cyclist allegedly knocked the man to the ground about 4.30pm and fled without offering assistance.
Waking up with a large lump and cut to his head, the man was helped home by passers-by and was later taken to St Vincent’s Hospital.
The cyclist, a middle-aged man, was last seen riding north from the scene.
The crash comes just one week after a “dooring” incident between a cyclist and a man getting out of a cab on Collins St.
Vision of the dooring went viral, igniting a fiery debate over the road rules and cycling conditions in the CBD.
In the dooring incident and Tuesday’s crash, the cyclists were both in lanes indicated for riding.
But it is an offence to leave the scene of a collision.
