VicRoads has today announced that three organisations have been shortlisted to tender for the Melbourne Bike Share scheme.
VicRoads has shortlisted the following organisations (listed in alphabetical order):
· JCDecaux
· RACV (the current operators)
· Social Bicycles.
VicRoads Regional Director, Ms Patricia Liew, said the organisations demonstrated innovation and experience, qualifying them to be shortlisted.

“The shortlisted organisations offer a potential diverse range of solutions for Melbourne Bike Share," Ms Liew said.

“We want to make sure that the successful operator will not only deliver a bike share scheme but grow the initiative."

VicRoads shortlisted the organisations as part of a thorough tender process for a Melbourne Bike Share operator.

“In December last year, VicRoads sought expressions of interest from organisations who were willing and able to run the new bike share scheme,” Ms Liew said.

This summer, Melbourne Bike Share has seen a 17 per cent increase in total usage of the bikes, compared to last year. There has also been a significant jump in new casual users.

VicRoads will run a series of workshops in early April 2014 which will help the shortlisted organisations refine their tender proposals. The tenders will detail how each organisation proposes to run the Melbourne Bike Share.

Tenders will close in April and the successful operator is expected to be announced in late May 2014.
