Cyclist dies a month after hit-run

CAROLINE ZIELINSKI December 20, 2013
The cyclist who was critically injured after he was hit by a car in East Brighton last month has died in hospital.
A friend had put up a Facebook post as a tribute to Julian Paul, 54, who was riding along the Nepean Highway when a silver Honda Jazz struck him near Union Street about 9.30pm on Tuesday, November 26.
The driver did not stop at the scene.
A 31-year-old woman was later arrested at a house in Moorabbin, but she was released pending further inquiries.
She was later charged with failing to stop at an accident and failing to render assistance.
The post said Mr Paul was a "father, husband, son and brother" who was a commuter and weekend rider. It said the news of his death had "come as a shock", and asked to "please spare a thought for his family and friends during this difficult time".

Mr Paul was taken to The Alfred hospital, and battled life-threatening injuries to his spine and neck before passing away on Wednesday.
Tributes have begun rolling in, with one post saying that "Timing couldn't be much worse for this - NO time is good for these tragedies but so much worse when there's such an occasion to keep reminding those left behind".
Others said they "Felt sad looking at this delightful photo", and a single post of "tragic" encompassed the feeling of other friends.
Mr Paul's brother-in-law, Andrew Kranz, said he was a "marvellous man" who "forms the linchpin of that family, he keeps it all together".
He said the circumstances surrounding the crash were "baffling".
"You don't hit somebody and smash a windscreen and not realise you've hit something. It's ridiculous," Mr Kranz said.
Mr Paul's death brings the road toll to 2013 to 236, 36 fewer than this time last year.
