A 26-year-old St Kilda woman was bashed and kicked unconscious early on Sunday morning by a group of up to nine people on a crowded NightRider bus in the city centre. The group attacked her when she spoke out about their aggressive behaviour on the bus, witnesses said.
Chris Lowe, the chief executive of Bus Association Victoria, said protective services officers should be put on NightRider buses, which currently have no security presence other than the driver.
"...young women in particular were saying the NightRider bus is unsafe, really unpleasant and full of really drunk people ... Some of them said they would do anything to avoid it."
